A quick, low-carb, and satisfying keto-friendly stir fry featuring tender beef and crisp cabbage with simple seasoning. Perfect for busy weeknights and keto meal plans.

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, finely grated (optional)
  • 3 tbsp coconut aminos or tamari
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 stalks green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef thinly into about 1/4 inch strips. For easier slicing, place beef in the freezer for 15 minutes beforehand. Set aside.
  2. Remove the tough core from the cabbage and shred into thin ribbons about 1/4 inch wide. Place in a mixing bowl.
  3. In a small bowl, combine coconut aminos, minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes (if using), and a pinch of black pepper. Stir well.
  4. Heat 2 tbsp olive or avocado oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking (about 2 minutes).
  5. Add the sliced beef in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding. Sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned but still tender. Remove beef and set aside.
  6. Lower heat to medium. Add 1 tbsp sesame oil to the pan, then toss in the shredded cabbage. Stir frequently and cook for about 5 minutes until cabbage softens but retains some crunch. Season lightly with salt.
  7. Return beef to the pan. Pour the seasoning mixture over everything and toss to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to meld flavors and thicken the sauce slightly.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt or more coconut aminos if needed. Remove from heat and sprinkle sliced green onions on top before serving.

Notes

Do not overcook the cabbage; it should stay vibrant and slightly crisp. If the pan looks dry during the last stage, add a splash of water or broth to loosen the sauce. For easier slicing, freeze beef for 15 minutes before cutting. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper searing.
