  • 12 slider buns (Hawaiian rolls or classic dinner rolls)
  • 1 pound (450 g) thinly sliced deli ham (smoked preferred)
  • 8 ounces (225 g) Swiss cheese slices (Emmental or Jarlsberg as alternatives)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) honey
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) whole grain mustard (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
  • Optional add-ins: pickles or sliced jalapeños, fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the slider buns horizontally if not pre-sliced. Place the bottom halves in a 9×13-inch baking dish, forming a snug layer.
  3. Layer the ham evenly on top of the bottom buns.
  4. Top the ham with Swiss cheese slices, covering each slider generously.
  5. Place the top halves of the buns over the cheese, pressing gently to compact the sliders slightly.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, Dijon mustard, melted butter, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and whole grain mustard (if using). Adjust sweetness or tang to taste.
  7. Brush the glaze generously over the top of the slider buns.
  8. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for another 5-7 minutes until the glaze bubbles and caramelizes and the buns turn golden brown.
  10. Let the sliders rest for 5 minutes before slicing into individual servings.

Notes

Use thinly sliced ham for easy layering and quick warming. Brush glaze in thin layers to avoid dripping and burning. Cover sliders while baking to melt cheese perfectly and keep buns soft. For a crispier top, broil 1-2 minutes at the end, watching closely. Store leftovers in airtight container refrigerated up to 3 days; reheat wrapped in foil at 350°F for 10 minutes.
