This Buffalo Chicken Dip Stuffed Bread Bowl is a game day showstopper—a hollowed sourdough loaf filled with creamy, spicy Buffalo chicken dip, baked until bubbly, and served with toasted bread pieces for dipping. It’s easy to make, feeds a crowd, and the edible bowl is the best part.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (rotisserie recommended)
  • 1/2 cup Buffalo wing sauce (Frank’s RedHot recommended)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1 large round bread loaf (sourdough, about 810 inches across)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (for brushing bread)
  • Optional: extra Buffalo sauce for brushing inside of bread bowl
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon crumbled blue cheese (for garnish, optional)
  • Celery sticks and carrot sticks (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Let cream cheese sit out to soften for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the bread loaf: Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top, cutting at a slight angle inward to create a lid. Set lid aside. Use hands or a fork to pull out the soft bread inside, leaving a 1-inch thick wall. Tear removed bread into bite-sized pieces and arrange on a baking sheet around the bread bowl.
  3. Brush the inside of the bread bowl with a little melted butter or olive oil. For extra Buffalo flavor, mix 1 tablespoon hot sauce into the butter first.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded chicken, Buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until well combined and no white streaks remain.
  5. Fold in shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until evenly distributed. Do not overmix.
  6. Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed bread loaf, mounding slightly above the rim. Place the lid on top or leave it off for a more exposed, melty look.
  7. Brush the outside of the bread with remaining melted butter or olive oil.
  8. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet (with extra bread pieces around it if toasting). Bake for 20-25 minutes, until dip is hot and bubbly and cheese on top is melted and starting to brown. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with chopped green onions and crumbled blue cheese. Arrange celery and carrot sticks around the bread bowl if desired. Serve immediately with toasted bread pieces and additional chips or crackers.

Notes

Don’t overfill the bread bowl—leave about half an inch of space at the top. Toast the bread pieces separately with olive oil and garlic salt for extra flavor. Use room temperature cream cheese for even mixing. Adjust heat level by adding more or less Buffalo sauce. If bread starts browning too fast, tent with foil. Assemble ahead but bake just before serving for best texture.
