A visually stunning and delicious buffalo chicken dip with a creamy spiderweb design made from sour cream. Perfect for Halloween parties, game day, or any gathering, this easy appetizer combines spicy buffalo sauce, creamy cheeses, and tender chicken for a crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (8-ounce) blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup cooked, shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot Original)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Celery sticks, carrot sticks, tortilla chips, crackers, or baguette slices for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate or round baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded chicken, buffalo hot sauce, and ranch dressing. Use an electric hand mixer on low speed to blend until smooth and well-incorporated.
  3. Fold in the shredded sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese with a spatula. Reserve about 1/4 cup of cheddar for the top. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of black pepper. Taste and adjust heat if desired.
  4. Spread the buffalo chicken mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top into a flat layer. Sprinkle the reserved cheddar over the top.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until hot, bubbly, and edges are starting to brown. If edges get too dark, tent loosely with foil for the last 5 minutes.
  6. While the dip bakes, prepare the spiderweb topping: In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream and milk until smooth. Transfer to a piping bag or small zip-top bag and set aside.
  7. Remove dip from oven and let rest for 2-3 minutes. Snip a tiny corner off the piping bag. Pipe a small circle of sour cream in the center, then pipe larger concentric circles around it, leaving about an inch between circles, until you have 4-5 circles covering the surface.
  8. Using a toothpick or knife tip, gently drag from the center outward through all circles to the edge, creating a spiderweb pattern. Wipe the toothpick clean after each line. Repeat every inch around the dip.
  9. Serve immediately with celery sticks, carrot sticks, tortilla chips, crackers, or baguette slices.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and let it come to room temperature. The dip can be assembled (without spiderweb) up to 24 hours ahead; refrigerate and add 5-10 minutes to baking time. For a milder version, add more cream cheese or ranch. For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or more hot sauce. The spiderweb pattern is forgiving—smooth over mistakes with a spoon.
