Ingredients

  • Waffle Cones or Sugar Cones
  • String Cheese
  • Pepperoni or Salami Slices
  • Red Seedless Grapes or Cherry Tomatoes
  • Black Olives
  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Optional: Cream Cheese or Ranch Dip

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workstation (2 minutes): Wash hands and set out ingredients. Place cones upright in a glass or muffin tin lined with paper towels.
  2. Create the Cheese Ghosts (5 minutes): Peel string cheese into thin strips. Use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter or knife to cut ghost shapes. Poke two small holes for eyes using a knife tip or straw, or add a tiny slice of black olive for eyes. Make 2-3 ghosts per cone.
  3. Prepare the ‘Spooky’ Details (3 minutes): Slice black olives into thin rounds. Cut pepperoni or salami into bat shapes using a cookie cutter or small triangles. Cut grapes in half lengthwise. Set aside in separate bowls.
  4. Assemble the Cones (5 minutes): Place a waffle cone upright in a glass or muffin tin. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of cream cheese or ranch dip into the bottom if desired. Layer in pepperoni slices, cheese ghosts, grape halves, and olive slices. Stick pretzel sticks into the filling to stand up like spider legs or broomsticks.
  5. Decorate the Outside (5 minutes): For a mummy cone, wrap a strip of string cheese around the outside, leaving a gap for two olive eyes. For a monster cone, spread cream cheese on the outside and press on olive or pepperoni pieces to create a face. For a spider cone, attach a whole olive to the side with a toothpick and add four pretzel sticks on each side for legs.
  6. Final Assembly and Serving (2 minutes): Check that everything is secure. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 hours. Arrange on a platter or in a glass jar for presentation.

Notes

Keep cones crisp by patting olives and grapes dry. Assemble close to serving time for best texture. Let kids help with decorating for more fun. For gluten-free, use gluten-free cones. For dairy-free, use vegan cheese and dairy-free cream cheese.
