This Ultimate Buffalo Chicken Dip Stuffed Bread Bowl is a showstopping appetizer that solves the awkward scooping problem by baking the dip inside a hollowed-out sourdough loaf. It’s cheesy, spicy, and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top of the bread loaf. Carefully remove the top in one piece and set aside.
  3. Gently pull out the soft bread from the inside of the loaf, leaving a 1-inch thick wall all around. Set the removed bread pieces aside for dipping.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, buffalo wing sauce, and ranch dressing. Stir until completely smooth.
  5. Add the shredded chicken, 3/4 cup cheddar, 3/4 cup Monterey Jack, and crumbled blue cheese (if using) to the bowl. Stir until evenly coated.
  6. Stir in the sliced green onions and season with a pinch of salt and a few cracks of black pepper. Adjust buffalo sauce or salt to taste.
  7. Spoon the chicken mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl, packing it in and mounding slightly on top.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup cheddar and 1/4 cup Monterey Jack cheese over the top.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the garlic powder. Brush this mixture all over the outside of the bread bowl.
  10. Place the stuffed bread bowl on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden.
  11. Let the bread bowl cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before serving. Serve with extra bread chunks, chips, and veggies.

Notes

Don’t over-hollow the bread; leave a 1-inch wall. Use room temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps. For a crispier bottom, pre-bake the hollowed bread bowl at 350°F for 5 minutes before filling. Let the bread bowl rest for 5 minutes after baking to allow the dip to set.
