A quick and easy recipe for crispy pretzel rods dipped halfway in melted chocolate and decorated with festive sprinkles, perfect for last-minute guests or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Pretzel rods (crisp, sturdy rods)
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • ½ cup (100 grams) festive sprinkles (holiday-themed, rainbow, or edible glitter)
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate: Place 8 ounces (225 g) of chocolate chips or melting wafers into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring well each time until smooth and glossy (about 1-2 minutes total). Alternatively, melt using a double boiler on the stovetop, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  2. Prepare your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set out your festive sprinkles in a small bowl nearby for easy access. Have your pretzel rods ready.
  3. Dip the pretzels: Holding a pretzel rod by one end, dip it halfway into the melted chocolate. Let any excess drip back into the bowl. Reheat chocolate gently if it starts to harden. This step takes about 1 minute per rod.
  4. Add the sprinkles: Immediately after dipping, sprinkle the festive toppings over the chocolate-coated section. Press lightly if needed to help sprinkles stick.
  5. Set the rods: Place the dipped pretzels on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to cool at room temperature until the chocolate hardens, roughly 20-30 minutes. For faster setting, refrigerate for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Store or serve: Once set, arrange pretzel rods on a serving platter or store in an airtight container. Best kept at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Notes

Use high-quality melting chocolate for smooth texture. Dip pretzels halfway for balanced flavor. Work quickly when dipping to avoid thick chocolate layers. Give each rod enough space on the baking sheet to prevent sticking. If chocolate seizes, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil or shortening and stir gently. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Avoid refrigeration if possible to maintain crispness.
