A simple, moist, and creamy pumpkin dump cake with swirls of cream cheese that delivers cozy fall flavors without fuss. Perfect for quick fall gatherings and comforting dessert moments.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling; pure pumpkin)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow or spice cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt until smooth and well combined.
  3. Using a hand or stand mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until fluffy (about 2 minutes). Add 1/3 cup sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy and smooth.
  4. Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the pumpkin layer in spoonfuls. Use a butter knife or skewer to gently swirl the cream cheese into the pumpkin layer, creating a marbled effect.
  6. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pumpkin and cream cheese layers without pressing down.
  7. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix layer.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cake layer comes out mostly clean.
  9. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil after 30 minutes. Use room temperature eggs and cream cheese for best results. Do not over-swirl the cream cheese mixture to maintain the marbled effect. For gluten-free, use gluten-free cake mix. For dairy-free, substitute cream cheese and butter with dairy-free alternatives.
