A simple and festive 4-ingredient layered jello shot recipe perfect for patriotic holidays and summer parties, combining fruity gelatin flavors with vodka for a balanced boozy kick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 oz (85 g) Red Gelatin Mix (cherry or strawberry flavor)
  • 3 oz (85 g) Blue Gelatin Mix (blue raspberry flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon (9 g) Unflavored Gelatin Powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) Vodka, divided
  • 3 cups (720 ml) Water, divided

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Boil 1 cup (240 ml) of water. Pour into a bowl with the red gelatin powder and stir until completely dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add ½ cup (120 ml) of vodka and mix gently. Pour into jello shot cups, filling each about one-third full. Refrigerate for 30–40 minutes until firm but not fully set.
  2. Prepare the White Layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over ½ cup (120 ml) cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes. Heat gently until dissolved. In a separate bowl, mix sweetened condensed milk with ½ cup (120 ml) boiling water until smooth. Combine the two gelatin mixtures, then stir in ½ cup (120 ml) vodka. Carefully pour over the red layer to fill cups another one-third. Chill for 40–50 minutes until firm.
  3. Prepare the Blue Layer: Boil 1 cup (240 ml) water and dissolve the blue gelatin powder. Add ½ cup (120 ml) vodka and mix. Gently layer on top of the white layer, filling cups to the top. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until completely set.
  4. Serving: Once set, jello shots should pop out of the cups easily or be ready to serve as is. Keep refrigerated until ready to enjoy.

Notes

Pour each layer slowly over the back of a spoon to prevent colors from mixing. Let each layer set until firm but slightly tacky before adding the next. Use boiling water for flavored gelatin and cold water for unflavored gelatin bloom. Chilling in the freezer for short bursts (10 minutes) can speed up setting but avoid freezing solid. Store leftovers covered in the fridge up to 4 days; avoid freezing.
