Honey Lime Grilled Chicken Breasts

Juicy grilled chicken breasts glazed with a tangy and sweet honey lime sauce, perfect for quick weeknight dinners or summer BBQs.

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 oz / 170 g each)
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 g)
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (about 2 medium limes)
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Pound to about 3/4 inch thickness if uneven. (5 minutes)
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together honey, lime juice, lime zest, garlic, olive oil, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and chili flakes until well combined. (2 minutes)
  3. Place chicken breasts in a shallow dish or resealable bag. Pour half the glaze over chicken, turning to coat evenly. Reserve the other half for basting. Marinate at room temperature for 15–20 minutes or up to 2 hours in the fridge (30 minutes recommended).
  4. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat (about 400°F / 200°C).
  5. Grill chicken breasts for 5–6 minutes on the first side without moving. Brush with reserved glaze halfway through.
  6. Flip chicken and grill another 5–6 minutes, basting again. Cook until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Transfer chicken to a plate, cover loosely with foil, and rest for 5 minutes.
  8. Slice against the grain and drizzle with any leftover glaze. Serve with grilled vegetables or salad.

Notes

Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking. Marinate between 15 minutes and 2 hours for best flavor. Baste often during grilling for sticky glaze. If honey crystallizes, warm gently before mixing. Watch for flare-ups on charcoal grills due to honey’s sugars.
