A quick and easy watermelon mint agua fresca recipe perfect for summer parties, offering a bright, refreshingly sweet drink with a hint of mint.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups watermelon, cubed and seeds removed
  • 1520 fresh mint leaves, washed and gently muddled
  • Juice of 2 large limes (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 4 cups cold, filtered water
  • 23 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut about 6 cups (900g) of watermelon into chunks, removing any seeds.
  2. Wash and gently pat dry 15-20 fresh mint leaves.
  3. Juice 2 large limes to get roughly 3 tablespoons (45ml) of fresh lime juice.
  4. Place the mint leaves in the blender or a large mixing bowl. Use a wooden muddler or the back of a spoon to gently bruise the leaves until aromatic but not shredded.
  5. Add watermelon chunks to the blender with muddled mint. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and vibrant pink.
  6. Optional: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher, pressing gently to extract all the juice.
  7. Stir in the fresh lime juice and 2-3 tablespoons (30-45ml) of honey or agave syrup, adjusting sweetness to taste.
  8. Pour in 4 cups (950ml) of cold, filtered water to dilute and balance the flavors. Stir gently.
  9. Add plenty of ice cubes to the pitcher or serve over ice-filled glasses. Garnish with a few mint sprigs or lime wedges if desired.
  10. For best flavor, chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Muddle mint gently to avoid bitterness. Straining is optional depending on desired texture. Adjust sweetness gradually. Chill before serving for best flavor. Can substitute coconut water or sparkling water for variation. Avoid blending mint with ice to prevent harsh flavor.
