These Spooky Mummy Pretzel Dogs with Mustard Eyes are the perfect Halloween appetizer—fun, delicious, and ridiculously simple to make. With a soft pretzel wrapper and juicy smoked sausage, they’re a guaranteed hit at any party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (11 oz) refrigerated breadstick dough (Pillsbury recommended)
  • 1 package (12-14 oz) mini smoked sausages or hot dogs (Lit’l Smokies or Hillshire Farm)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Coarse sea salt or pretzel salt (optional)
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes and dipping)
  • Ketchup (optional, for eyes or dipping)
  • Melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until combined. Set aside.
  3. Open the can of breadstick dough and separate into 8 breadsticks. Cut each breadstick in half lengthwise to create 16 long, thin strips.
  4. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a mini smoked sausage, starting at one end and overlapping slightly, leaving a small gap near the top for the eyes. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining sausages and dough strips.
  5. Brush each mummy with the egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse salt if desired.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the dough is puffed and golden brown.
  7. Let cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. Using a squeeze bottle or toothpick, add two small dots of yellow mustard for eyes.
  8. Optional: Brush hot mummies with melted butter before adding eyes for extra flavor.

Notes

For best results, serve immediately after baking. You can assemble the mummies up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate, then bake just before serving. For a vegetarian option, use vegan hot dogs or cheese sticks. For an air fryer method, cook at 350°F (175°C) for 6-8 minutes.
