A tender, slow-cooked pulled pork recipe with a sweet and savory honey garlic glaze, perfect for easy party sliders or casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 pounds pork shoulder (Boston butt), trimmed of excess fat but still marbled
  • 1/4 cup (85g) honey
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (25g) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 12 small slider buns (King’s Hawaiian recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing buns)
  • Optional toppings: thinly sliced pickles, coleslaw, fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels and trim excess fat, leaving some marbling for moisture (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, black pepper, and onion powder to make the glaze.
  3. Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker and pour the honey garlic glaze over it, coating all sides evenly.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours until the pork is fork-tender and easily shredded.
  5. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks, discarding large chunks of fat.
  6. Skim excess fat from the slow cooker sauce, then return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir to coat with the sauce. Keep warm on low.
  7. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Brush melted butter on the inside of the slider buns and toast cut side down until golden and slightly crispy, about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Assemble sliders by piling pulled pork onto the toasted bun bottoms, adding optional toppings if desired, and capping with the top bun.
  9. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

If the sauce is too thin after cooking, remove the pork and simmer the sauce on high until thickened. Adding chili flakes to the glaze adds a gentle heat. For gluten-free, use tamari and gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. Butter can be substituted with olive oil for dairy-free. Toast buns just before serving to prevent sogginess. The pork can be made a day ahead and reheated gently.
